class=\"wp-block-heading\">Weeds of National Significance (WoNS)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/weeds.org.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/WoNS-logo-colour-1024x451.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6749\" style=\"width:429px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.agriculture.gov.au\/pests-diseases-weeds\/pest-animals-and-weeds\">Australian Weeds Strategy<\/a>, 32 WoNS have been identified by Australian governments based on their:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>invasiveness<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>potential for spread<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>environmental, social and economic impacts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>A list of 20 WoNS was endorsed in 1999 and a further 12 were added in 2012.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Note that some of the 32 WoNS are grouped together together as one (e.g. Asparagus weeds, Brooms, Opuntioid cacti, and Bitou bush\/Boneseed). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most WoNS have species-specific management manuals and guides. <a href=\"https:\/\/weeds.org.au\/weeds-profiles\/\" data-type=\"link\"
